My Dear Anonymous,
I asked you a question in my last letter.
Do you and I have a history?
Because, Anonymous,
your name is strangely familiar.
For years, I occasionally received letters signed by you.
But they were nothing like you—
in generosity or spirit.
Forgive the trauma dump.
They usually arrived when someone was unhappy with me.
Sometimes angry.
Sometimes disappointed.
Sometimes certain I needed to know exactly what they thought.
But never willing to tell me who they were.
They simply signed:
Anonymous.
The more I think about it,
it can't be you.
Maybe it's your weird uncle,
Anonymous the Anonymous?
Sadly, it's a more common name than you'd think.
And apparently,
taken and used in vain.
But you, my dear Anonymous 2.0,
have redeemed the name!
I used to associate your name with complaint.
Scarcity.
And the hardest part wasn't always what the letters said.
It was that there was no relationship available on the other side.
No conversation.
No coffee.
No opportunity to listen.
No chance to understand.
No way to respond.
No Charity.
No Generosity.
Just…
Anonymous.
And now, all these years later,
your name shows up again.
Only this time,
not attached to a complaint—
but to a gift.
A $2,500 GIFT!
No demand.
No recognition.
Just generosity.
Charity.
A gift entrusted to God
for someone else's good.
And suddenly,
the name Anonymous
means something entirely different to me.
Not complaint.
True charity.
Not scarcity.
Generosity.
Not something withheld.
Something given away.
Maybe that's the real surprise in all of this.
You didn't just help provide for The Free Range Pastor.
You redeemed a name.
So whether we've met before or not,
My Dear Anonymous,
I think I'll remember you differently now.
And I like you much better this way.
Your affectionate Shepherd,
Ken
